Equipment and Facilities

After 16 months, construction on our permanent lab space in 5071 Percival Stern Hall is finally complete.

One major piece of equipment is our LC Technology Solutions glove box. It consists of two separate boxes, each with their own atmospheric purification system, which are connected by a large shared antechamber. Solvent use is allowed in the larger box, which is filled with nitrogen and equipped with a solvent removal system. Inside it is a UV-ozone cleaner and a spin-coating deposition tool. The smaller box is filled with argon, and no solvent use is allowed. It used to be located in a temporary space and was moved to its permanent home in September 2024.
Glove box mid-reassembly in its permanent home. We had to split it into three pieces for the move.
Glove box in its prior temporary location.
Panalytical Aeris benchtop powder X-ray diffractometer, which is still located in our temporary home.
Three-zone tube furnace (maximum temperature 1350 °C) undergoing its first test.

Two Thermo-Fisher small box furnaces, maximum temperature 1100 °C.

Programmable spin-coating deposition system for thin film fabrication on a variety of substrates. This is the cleanest it will ever be.

Large Thermo-Fisher box furnace, maximum temperature 1200 °C.

Thermo-Fisher Mini-Mite 1″ diameter tube furnace, maximum temperature 1100 °C.
